The Nation has Vital Responsibility of Helping our Children Thrive
Victoria, Mahé, Seychelles, June 1, 2020 – To our young generation of Seychellois, our future leaders, our precious children, Happy Children’s Day! The Nation as a whole has the vital responsibility of helping our children thrive.
Yet, more innocent children than we can possibly fathom are sexually abused, oftentimes by much older relatives or other persons in positions of trust, and the effects are often devastating and long-lasting.
It is time to break through the culture of silence to call for justice. The Government can and should do more. We all can. Our children deserve a positive future: the chance to grow and learn in safety – free from the threat of sexual abuse.
“Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future. Those who abuse them tear at the fabric of our society and weaken our Nation” – Nelson Mandela.
Countless children are living in poor conditions, and not having access to resources which would enable them to thrive. With Government and our elected leaders letting the public down at every turn, more and more families are falling beneath the poverty line, and the consequences of this are being felt by our innocent children.
Government needs to recognise that our children are our best hope for the future, and our most valuable resource that needs to be cherished and protected at all costs.
We owe it to our children to do more.
