Tourism Leader Meet During the WTTC Global Summit in Bangkok
Bangkok (Thailand) – April 28, 2017 (travelindex) – Some the most influential business executives in the travel and tourism industry have converged on Bangkok for the World Travel and Tourism Council’s 2017 Global Summit. The WTTC Global Summit addresses the issues which affect the sector as a whole, for an invitation-only audience. The Summit kicked off with the launch of the ‘Is It Too Much To Ask’ advocacy campaign, calling on individuals and Travel & Tourism organisations to commit to tackling the issues currently facing the sector and the planet.
The WTTC Global Summit is an event for the leaders of the Travel and Tourism sector, who gather each year, to meet and share their views and insights on many pertinent global topics, in both a business and social environment.
The 2017 Summit was an opportunity for Mr. Alain St. Ange, former Minister of Tourism from the Seychelles and Mr. Bernard Metzger Founder of Travelindex to meet.
Alain St.Ange from the Seychelles is one of six candidates contesting the May elections to head the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Armenia, Brazil, Columbia, Georgia, Korea, Seychelles and Zimbabwe are the countries that are in the running with candidates already accepted by the UNWTO Madrid Office. The election will be held on May 12 at the organisation’s headquarters in Madrid, and will be voted on by ministers of tourism from 34 countries.
Bernard A. Metzger, the Founder & Director of Travelindex says: “During the 2017 WTTC Global Summit, Alain informed me, in details, on his plan for the UNWTO Secretary-General’s mandate and I was impressed by his committment, dedication and hard work to make world tourism work for everybody and to make it a force for good.”
Bernard further added: “Alain briefed me also on some of the ‘fake news’ campaigns beeing orchestrated against him and the call by Zambia, on behalf of the African Union, for him to withdraw from the race for Secretary-General of the UNWTO. He confirmed to me that he will not let these tactics affect him but will continued to present ourselves to Member States as the most credible candidate and will continue his campaign through in an ethical and morally upright fashion, right up to the voting day on the 12th of May.”
On the second day of the Global Summit in Bangkok, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) announced the Winners of the 2017 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards. The Awards celebrate inspirational, world-changing tourism initiatives from all over the globe. David Scowsill, President & CEO, WTTC, said: “The Travel and Tourism sector is growing fast, and we have to ensure that this growth does not see short-term gains prioritised over the longer-term health of local environments and communities.”
